Well I hope these days is easy work with Dream Weaver :), but I have started around 10 years ago using NOTE PAD. Maybe using note pad can help you to learn html tags, becouse you need to remember each one....

Today I use dream weaver :)

    My 2 cents,

If you use the WYSIWYG, Dreamweaver makes buggy, broken bloated websites that have more of 1997 about them than 2007... in that way it is a steaming pile of crap that it seems people get suckered into thinking is good by other people who don't have a clue what they are talking about.

If you stay away from the WYSIWYG and just use it's code view mode - WHY BOTHER USING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. $400 for an overglorified text editor, **** that.

Notepad++, Win32pad, gEdit - If you are using anything more than that, you are probably screwing up and making **** websites that the next person to work on it is going to go "what idiot made this crap?!?"

Dreamweaver is a professional grade product - Right, and I'm the latest Mahatma.

Dreamweaver does a great job as an assistant. In typing time by the hour it has easily saved me the $400.00 in 6 months. Code view only though. Everything I code validates to strict.

Notepad 2 is pretty good (much better than notepad 1 for html)

    HOW?

But then code completion usually just completes in the wrong place making me do even MORE editing, gets in the way of ACTUAL SENSIBLE code indentation, and don't even get me started about how the acid trip of syntax highlighting just makes the damned page impossible to read much less see errors in... much less the preview panel just introducing ANOTHER rendering engine to the four engines we are actually expected to support. (and making people get lazy about hitting alt-tab, F5, alt-tab, F5, alt-tab, F5, alt-tab F5)

WORSE, 90%+ of the threads on here with people asking for help on layout issues STEM from them using dreamweaver in the first place. I have to stop myself from saying "Chuck that crap in the trash and use notepad" to EVERY SINGLE "Help me" thread. (and I see one more mm_swap ***ing up a page and doubling it's size for no reason I'm gonna barf)

When I say steaming ******* god ***** pile of **** dredged up by some five dollar ****** ***** to turn a $400 trick on the streetcorner, I mean it. I honestly cannot grasp how ANYONE can find that overpriced bloated train-wreck the least bit useful. I have NO kind words for Dreamweaver whatsoever as it repeatedly seems to cause a great deal more problems than it ever solved, being little more than an upscale version of Frontpage... But then that's my opinion about all editors with built in WYSIWYGS as time after time you end up having to clean up after the mess of people who code using it.

But then I've got three decades of coding under my belt - YMMV.

I use Dreamweaver the most, I think it is because I'm used to it, but it depends, Note Pad is also good.

in win os I use dreamweaver, and in linux I use quanta plus or another text editor with highlight. I think, it is not so principle, because usually I make code without visual interface at all, and... if I do this in visual, I examine this code. It means, that the final stage of coding is text editing. For this purpose notepad or small text-editor with highlight is the best solution. May be at first stage of coding dreamveaver helps your to make basic html-structure faster.

I usually use 123 WYSIWYG HTML Editor, Dreamweaver and Notepad. It depends. When I want to to edit PHP file I use Dreamweaver and Notepad. But when I want to make website from the scratch I use 123WYSIWYG HTML editor. They have minus and plus for each program.
