Not using images hurt SEO rank?

    Hello,

On my site I have all my images being called from a .css file. So when you look at the HTML you won't see any code for images. I know that you can optimize using images but will having no images(from SE stand point) hurt my rankings?

Is there a way you can include image alt tags and descriptions in your .css file?

Theoretically speaking, there shouldn't be much difference. In fact, I'd put more effort into the text, not the images. The text content is what will have a greater effect on SEO. AFAIK you can't add alt tags to any images called through the css - search engines will therefore just see the position of the images as a blank, useless space, IMO.
