A candidate is only allowed to use up to 5 words to describe themselves on the ballot. Griffin believes that "NOT the whiteman's b****" is the most accurate description of herself, yet the state's Government Accountability Board will not allow it. I support Griffin's right to use these words, and feel they should be protected by the First Amendment. Admittedly, I know little of Griffin's political career, but based on her choice of words, I would say she may place a higher importance on skin color than ideas, and is most likely a racist against white people. These words do say a lot about her, and I have no problem with them being on the ballot. What do you think? P.s. ^ As the article says, Griffin may have a significant bump in name recognition, but that's not always positive -- I would speculate her political career has already ended.
She can say whatever she wants to because this is her right to do so but... it will be up to voting public to decide if she is Racist or just a dumb politician. I vote for Freedom of Speech fastreplies
The five words on the ballot would be to sum up the meaning and purpose of a candidate, and all she could come up with is that she's not going to be the whiteman's b----. ^ The two words that I bolded above do seem to describe her, it's as if she takes running for public office as a joke. In reality, it's not that she can say whatever she wants, at least not printed on the ballot, as it's a government form. But, I still would vote for her freedom of expression on this, as it's much better for her to be upfront about her bias against white people before votes are cast. For me, I would never vote for any politician that campaigns on race, such as "A vote for me is a vote for white America!" A slogan like that would make me run the other way, quickly. Griffin's "NOT the whiteman's b----" slogan seems kind of similar, at least to me.
Seems the constituency she is appealing to might explain her words. Not necessarily racist. For a public election, the candidate should be able to chose the five words freely without editing from the officials. "NOT the whiteman's b----" Not sure what the b---- word is. Any hints.
Came across the story in the evening news: - No doubt there is not enough to prohibit her from using the phrase and doubtful it will get her elected. Just why 3-2 is not good enough or 4-1 is better as opposed to needing a unanimous vote if not simple majority does not make a lot of sense either.
It seems she could think of a more intelligent way to say "I'm not an average politician", without the racial and derogatory phrase "NOT the whiteman's b----." Like I have said, I do believe she has the right to say it, but suppose that I just find it offensive. I thought perhaps, is this just me? Am I just being sensitive, but I went to Essence magazine, which is frequented by many black women, and the comments on this article regarding Ms. Griffin were overwhelmingly negative. There are like three pages worth of awesome comments, but I thought this woman said it very well.
Rebecca: Wow, interesting, controversial, tinged with provocation. Meanwhile there is a test for the courts on Freedom of Speech. meanwhile does not sound like my kind of candidate, representing my perspective
>.<' I accidentally voted "no" - however I can't change it to yes. There's only one vote on "no" and that's me, so it's actually (so far) unanimously "yes". Sorry! Rebecca, good post - although it does sound like she probably hates whites, and the slogan will/would do her more harm than good - that's her business.
They should allow them to write whatever they want, but administer a powerful truth serum beforehand. Think of how fun a crowded ballot might be... Please select one of the following choices: Not the white man's B****! I hate black people. Seriously. Heck, I hate everyone. Show me the moneyyyyy! Hope there's a hot intern. Supporting labor beats doing it.
Here is some more for your list 7. My spouse is an idiot 8. No welfare checks for rednecks 9. Free pot for American people 10. Speeding tickets to raise revenue 11. Legalization of immigrant's racial profiling fastreplies
Black population has a lot of problem in Wisconsin, among others very high unemployment rate. It seems she feels that even elected Black politician are serving the ruling class (mostly white people) agenda and she is trying to say that she won´t be another puppet. Your suggestion won´t transmit this idea. May be she could have said "Not another uncle Tom" but with such a low education level among Black Americans, I wonder how many would still get what she meant. I think the slogan is quite accurate on getting her message out to the people she wants to appeal for votes.
