Hey there.. I bought a domain off eBay and it was on GoDaddy, so per the seller's instructions, I made a free godaddy account which he has not pushed the domain to me on. The problem is I already have an account with a different host who I'm very happy with.. I don't want to accept the domain and have it locked for 60 days . GoDaddy said I can "point the domain name servers" and so it wont be problem.. Is this accurate? Is there any disadvantage with the domain being hosted on GoDaddy and pointed to my host? will my website function fine? And will it be easy to go about getting my registrar to host the name after 60 days is up?
No there is no problem if godaddy provide you with name server change option in your domain control panel. You just change the nameserver to point to your hosting service provider. Your website shall have no problem at all
u can ask buyer to give auth code instead of push in this case. but its better to keep domain , host with different vendors
Hi, It is fine to have separate registrar and hosting companies and once the DNS changes have propagated, your Website will not function differently because of this. Domain registrars are required to allow you to transfer the domain away if you want to. Some will discourage you for obvious reasons and some can be awkward about it, but reputable registrars will just let you do it without any interference. Paul
It's a good idea to have your domains at one company, and your hosting at a separate company. It will work just fine having the domain at godaddy and your hosting elsewhere, that's what most people do.
There will be no problem by keeping domain on GoDaddy and hosting somewhere else. All you have to do is just set DNS properly, and your website will be ok then. You can also transfer the domain to your hosting (if they have domain registrar) after 60 days, but that is not mandatory. GoDaddy is a safe and maybe best place to keep domains.
