Not sure how to upgrade to the latest stable version of Wordpress

My blog is currently running on Wordpress version 2.8.

For security reasons, I've read that I should upgrade to the latest "stable" version of Wordpress.

What WP version do you recommend? For some reason, I'm very apprehensive on upgrading to a later version. I know very little about putting up a website, much less fixing it if something bad happens.

All your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

The latest stable version of WordPress is currently 3.0.1.

It's indeed a good idea to keep WordPress up to date. Usually that works very well with the automatic upgrade feature, but just to be on the safe side, backup your WordPress site (database AND files!) before the upgrade.

I agree with the above answer, always latest version is the stable one. Good luck.

I just automatically upgraded to WP 3.0.1 and things seem to be okay. Anything I should check to be certain that everything is indeed working fine?

    Thanks in advance.

If your site is working very well without any error then everything is ok.

The updating part is automatic these days - I clicked on update to the latest version and in 10 seconds, my wordpress was updated -Why take the risk and run on old wordpress versions when WP released the new one for us alone :)

The only thing I don't like about WP version 3.0.1 is that the "View Site" button is no longer there. That was very convenient.

If you click on the site name in the upper left corner of the dashboard, you'll be taken to the site. The mouse-over still says "View Site", btw.
