not submitted - but!

i have been submitting one of my websites to various directories

and quite often i will submit to a directory only for it to say link already exist in directory

1) i know i have`nt submitted it before as site is new

2) i can never find my link in the directory

anybody else come across this

 

using automated submission systems?

 

Seems strange would need a little more information before knowing exactly what is going on

Probably either you forgot that you did submit to the directory, or that directory is using a database from another directory that you had submitted to. As to why you do not see the link could be because although the link exisits in the database it just hasn't been approved yet.

 

i only do manual submissions

 

It shows only when u have submitted ur site and it is in the database and still awaiting approval.

So it is not visible in the directory and u get that message.

 

I had this result for one particular directory (it was on Vilesilencer's list, but since got removed), for any site that got submitted. It didn't matter that I was submitting a brand new site, recently registered. I tried several other sites, all with the same result - not in the search results, not previously submitted, and getting the message that the link already exists. In this case, the problem was clearly with the directory and not with the submitters.

I don't know if it's a common bug, or if it's just a case of a directory being set to refuse all new submissions whilst pretending that it does. Either way, what happened to you is not unheard of. Just move on to the next one on your list.

 

Not sure if this applies to you, but one thing I observed is that
if I submitted www.xxx.com, and then later try to submit www.xxx.com/yyy, phpLD script complains that the url already exists in the directory. So it seems phpLD treats all different subpages as the same url.
