Im thinking of opening a music site where i give people the latest in the music industry, but im going to be putting stuff that i read from other sites is that illegal?
Yes, copying and pasting (or scraping) posts or articles from other sites to put on your site is copyright infringement. Posting a small quote with a link back to the original would probably be OK under fair use. The best way to do it is to rewrite the news yourself - if it's entirely in your own words, it should be OK.
Technically, simply rewriting an article is also copyright infringement. A rewritten article is a derivative work. Of course, this type of infringement is the hardest to prove. It would also depend on the content of the article. If you are only reporting facts (release dates, show dates, etc...) you should be fine as facts cannot be copyrighted. The best thing would be just to report one or two facts from the article and link back to the source.
You are right bluegrass special, by "rewriting" I actually meant taking the facts and making a new article from scratch, not just changing the words around.
yeah, rewriting by means of replacing with synonyms still illegal. But still you can get ideas, facts from other sites to write your own content. Just write using your own words moreover you can repurpose it... meaning writing for different topic.
try to modify the words and make in your own words soon you will be write in your own words for new articles
Rewriting is actually more work than doing your own researches and writing your own content. Tried it once in school and since then I write my own stuff ;-)
