Not so many products left to promote

    Today, I was thinking of building a site to promote bluetooth cell phone headsets. I checked on Google and there are 61,300,000 results :eek: and I was shocked to see that many! Is there anything left to promote where the competition is not very tight? :confused:

    You can promote anything you want to still -- there are a couple of reasons for this the main one is this:

    E-commerce, people making financial transactions over the web is only barely beginning to scrape the surface over the next 10 years you will see MASSIVE growth in every niche, which means nothing is over promoted (except bad products).

    Making the choice on what to promote though is a bit more difficult start by asking yourself some questions

    How good are my skills/knowledge in being able to attack this market?
    Is there an easy niche that I enjoy?
    How much money and/or time will I have to invest?

    These questions should be quick to analyze then plug the bottom 5 results on page 1 in a website seo grader, see where they rank, does it look like there is room for improvement?

    A remember the most important factor in all of this is a beautiful word often forgot: innovation.

    Think of creative ways to bring the product to the niche, group reviews, make a hub page about the product, etc think of ways that you can still advertise the product by adding value to the people who will be interacting with your site.

    If you can do that it doesn't matter the competition because you just created a new niche.

    That is just the number of occurrences of a keyword on a page.

    If you learn how to use keyword tools, spot trends, and provide content people want then you can compete in just about any niche that isn't just totally owned by big corporate interests.

    What I'm trying to say is how am I going to compete with millions of Web pages out there in that example as I'm just starting out? Those people probably invested more than a year of their time to rank well on search engines for those terms and already established some reputation. The only way I can succeed is to pay for clicks, but for that I would need thousands of dollars to start my campaigns and gain some recognition. Even then, it does not mean that the clicks I bought will convert at all since people can go to millions of other sites and buy the same product. I want to promote some product or products that I am knowledgeable about, but any one that comes to my mind and that would sell well has just way too many people already promoting it.

    Yes, those are pages containing that keyword. I looked for pages that deal with just selling those products, and there are close to 300,000. Still too many in my opinion.

    The world is a big place. I would bet though that out of 300,000 people promoting the products...less than 1% actually make any money. Most people put up stuff with the hopes of making money with no actual plan.

    A better way to look at it is take the "Top 10" sites in that category, and if you feel you can compete with them after a few years than maybe its worth it. I wouldn't even worry about sites 100-300,000...they aren't making money anyway.

    JMO, plus I think people make the mistake of thinking they need to compete right out of the gate...long term investment means nothing to people these days I guess.

    No, I don't think I can compete with the top 10 in that niche. Some of them include Amazon, BestBuy and eBay. These guys are too big to be outranked. I'm going to find some bizarre niche that nobody thought of and then promote products in that niche. At least I'll have better chances selling stuff to a few weirdos than promoting bluetooth headsets. :D

    :) maybe your right...

    However, chances are you will be promoting those companies affiliate programs. Sure you'll never outpace them but you can give the user all 3 in one site. As it stands now, if I want to by a bluetooth, I'll probably buy from the 3 you have listed. I would much rather go to one site and see prices for all 3 sites and make my decision that way...not go directly to amazon, then bestbuy, then eBay....this is where those companies can't compete with you.


    I'd focus on individual devices bluetooth keywords as well, those might be a little less competitive. You're right, those three will be in the top no matter what...but there is a space for the bargain hunter or comparison shopper that wants to decide where to buy first. Hope this helps.     Using the right keyword tools is very important. I've found using the wordtracker tool very useful in identifying unique niches. You can use the free wordtracker tool for a general search or subscribe to the program for a more indepth analysis that allows you to see how much competition you have in a particular niche. You can even try the subscription for free for 7 days.

    You can try a different approach or twist such as providing unique information about bluetooth cell phone headsets for example, creating such information products for free or at a cost!:)

    There are already sites that do that pretty well like bizrate.com, shopping.com, pricegrabber.com, and many more. No need for me to collect that information when they have already done that. I ran out of ideas. I need some inspiration. :)

    I wouldn't do affiliate marketing then. Everything has been covered....the internet is too big and moves too fast. Once a good niche is found 1,000's follow like copy-cats. So even if you were to come up with a great idea, someone will copy you. If you can't handle this its not the business for you.


    Sure bizrate and shopping.com are around. But how many different kind of items do they cover? We were talking about Blue-Tooth devices...how many comparison Blue-Tooth ONLY sites are there? I have no idea. If I want to buy a blue-tooth and nothing else...why would I go to shopping.com and wade through all the HDTV's and iPods...ect. when you could give me what I want right away?

    Don't worry about the big guys...its the "smaller" guys that are having success that I look at. Again, you're going to use the big companies affiliate programs anyway...they are your partner and not your competitor. Forget about being a big-fish in the ocean and focus on being a big-fish in a pond. Narrow down what you want to sell to the lowest possible niche.

    For example: A Blue-Tooth shopping website for Blackberry Phones.
