Not Indian enough for the Indians?

    Here's an interesting one from New Zealand. I've got a friend who is blonde and blue eyed but 1/4 indian. She just sees herself as a Kiwi.

    This girl is 1/2 Fiji-Indian but a row erupted when she entered the "Miss IndiaNZ beauty contest".

    A bit harsh that a mixed race woman creates such a controversy.

    I think those people are idiots to make an issue out of such a small and trivial thing. Few people had a problem with her eligibility and she compared them to some famous racist bigoted moron..guess if she plans to become famous on an even bigger scale she needs to learn how to ignore stupid people, behave in public and play down insignificant things. Rest I don't think anyone anywhere cares.. bet 90% people can't even spot New Zealand on the map, and talk about them caring a damn about some local community beauty pageant in some unknown city in some tiny country in some small corner of the world.

    she looks beautiful she would get my vote, eventhough she doesn't resemble in any was an Indian in looks :p
    lol!! One needs to know which to quote and which not, honestly I don't give a crap about this.. It could be some internal politics which might have alarmed the issue, other contestants r their stakeholders might have brought this issue up - they might have feared this chick would pick away the prize :p

    This is just ridiculous - people should be able to be proud of their roots and believe they represent the best parts of their heritage.

    I wonder, how many blonds are in this contest? I can't help but think that as Indians typically have dark hair she would stand out a lot, not a positive thing for the other girls, I'm guessing.

    In India there isn't much diversity in terms of race so some narrow-minded people find it hard to believe that a white or black can also be Indian, some people here believe that to be Indian you should look like one nevermind where you were born or to whom you were born. These are the same people who don't treat NorthEastern Indians who look like orientals as Indians and refer to them as "Chinese", that gets a lot of frown here.

    Not many blondes I guess, considering beauty pageants usually have an IQ round too ;) ;) j/k ;)

    As I stated earlier its an jealousy issue which provoked the others I don't see any issue with race. For us, race isn't a matter of concern whether u r white r black r yellow r wat ever.. an Indian stands as an Indian even if he/she is 1/2 r 3/4 r 1/4 :p don't care

    I really don't think many blonds from Indian roots at least, unless there are lots of mixed race chicks participating :p

    Well wats 1/4th Indian ..... Dont you guys think its a way to classify .. I wud say if she has roots in india or anyway has the blood of an Indian ....She deserve to be there in the contest . The controversies are just part of makin something popular, Racism is all around the world ....So just blaming Indians is another form of Racism .

    I wish more girls would objectify me :D. Not to be objectifying, but the blonde is not as hot as the brunette in the above pic. Still a tough decision in a beauty contest. I'd have to see the mud wrestling segment to make up my mind.

    My friend is 1/4, but the girl in the pictures is 1/2. She obviously identifies with the indian community or she wouldn't have entered their pageant.

    Haha, nothing wrong with a bit of that - but it irritates me when someone makes a comment like "I'd give her one!" - which is almost exactly what hardeeps said. It just sounds so, eh, crude. XD

    Sarah, that's terrible. Ask her if she'd like me to come console her for a few days. :)

    This may seem like a terrible thing to say. Yet, when I look at the picture of the two women all I can think of is that horrendous looking nail polish. What is it for, Halloween? :)

    You might be sad to know I rarely wear nail polish, but when I do it's black ^-^; I find that when done properly it makes my already slender fingers look even nicer ^-^;
