A couple weeks ago I submitted my website to Yahoo, DMOZ, and about 10 other niche-specific directories. The content of my website is good but I'm not listed on any directory yet. Does it normally take a long time to get listed? Will I get denied a listing because my PR is "N/A" (my site is only a few weeks old)?
Approval rates vary considerably based on the directories you submit to. Paid directories are pretty quick. Many directories say they are free but they haven't approved free submissions for years. There are still a lot of good free directories out there but you have to find them when they are approving free submissions.
Hello... Because your site has no PR doesnt mean anything... Dmoz might not ever list your site and if it does it could take months/years Yahoo directory should have already notified you wether your site was accepted or not. If you paid the listing fee of $299.00 then im certain you will recieve back info. Most smaller paid directories will get you in within 24-48 hours usually thx malcolm
It takes long time to approval your submission if you use the ree submission, while paid directory list are quickly.
If you've got a good site, you'll be listed in the niche directories, but it might take a few weeks. There are also a lot of free directories out there that approve regularly. Take a few minutes every day submitting to them and you'll see a lot of links approved in the next 3 months.
Ok I guess I'll just be patient. I haven't paid for any directory listings because I feel they won't be worth the money
Sorry, but you are very misinformed. I am not surprised at all, to hear that you have not been listed in the places you have submitted. dmoz is nearly impossible to get in, unless you are an editor or know one. First of all, in this world, you get what you pay for. Second, you can submit to free directories all day long, but as others have pointed out, your site will not be approved for weeks/months, if ever...so you may be wasting your time altogether, which to me is not worth it. Third, there are some very good free directories, but make sure you check how many pending links there are. Fourth, you will never get listed in some free directories, due to 1000's of pending links, the only time the owner approves links is when you pay for a featured listing...ironic isn't it. Finally, if you want results, with quick backlinks, that actually show up in search engines, then you should consider paying review fees for your site. If you don't invest in your own site, then why would anybody else? Hope you get some backlinks soon.
your site is totaly new and you are submitting to top quality directories. its not easy for even top quality websites to approve in these directories.
Its probably the site that you are submitting or it could also be that you are submitting to old directories that have a big queue of submissions to clear try to submit in new directories as they are announced in http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65
Submit your site to new directories, you will get higher approval rate and will be listed more quickly.
Agreed... We have been getting several daily that are skipping the review fee and they get deleted. Imagine what hosting would do if they didnt get paid the fee for their service. laterz malcolm
Keep in mind that many paid directory owners around here think that the best way to promote their sites is to bash free directories. There are good directories and bad ones and being paid or free is not the only indication of which is which. As to your original question. DMOZ is a submit it and forget it proposition. If you get in, great. If you don't, there's about a 99.9% chance it had absolutely nothing to do with your site. I think the problem may be your site. Take a look at your home page with a critical eye. Your site looks like it has only 5 articles. Many directory owners don't take the time to go much deeper than the first page when reviewing sites. They may never visit your Lessons page and see just how many articles your site actually has. My suggestion would be to rearrange things on your home page. Include some pictures of guitars and make it more clear that you have a variety of informative articles instead of just 5. As it is now, your site looks like a brand new blog with only a few articles. I have seen several directories restrict blog submissions to blogs that have several months of posts on them because so many folks launch a blog, post a handful of articles and then abandon the site. If you were a match to my niches I would list your site. Your content appears to be unique and is on topic with your site. Good luck with your site.
