As you know SEO is not on-page optmization only and usually on-page can do a very little for you. Concentrate on link building and off-page optimization, sooner or later traffic will kick.
You have to research keywords with very low competition if you're only doing onpage optimization. You still need some backlinks, but if your blog homepage has PR4 at least you can rank the blog posts for low competitive keywords even within 24 hrs. You have to do a trick here. Either go for off page straight away for link building or put many fresh juicy content on regular basis. Both of your blogs require plenty of content (both are on really competitive niches) to get direct traffic. This works, from my personal experience I can tell you frequent update is very useful for blogs. It can cover the off page work for you. I want to mean 150-200 content a month will earn you traffic without any SEO work. You will get reference back links. But 'CONTENT' is something that will create all sorts of problem for you. You can't use this unless you write content.
