Not getting any Google rankings: all N/A

Discussion in 'Keyword Tracker' started by SulkyGirl, Jul 5, 2005.

I haven't gotten any Google rankings in months. It kept coming back N/A. And I looked at my stats a few weeks ago, and lo and behold: tons of Google hits. Turns out I'm #1 for quite a few of my keywords, and Keyword Tracker isn't finding me at all. I've been in these positions for weeks, the DCs should have settled. Anyone know what's going on?

If you click on one of the keywords, does the system give you an error?

Also, do you have any restrictions setup under your settings?

No error, it seems to be running fine. If I just click on one keyword, it runs, but returns n/a. As far as I know I have no restrictions...I changed the search thing from 50 to 200 (the max) but it made no difference.

What's a keyword/URL combo you are using (exactly as entered), and what position do you see it when you check Google manually?

    Ok, for example:

    Mac Casinos - http://www.applecasinos.com

I see it at #1 (and #2!) when I search google.

Many of us have reported this same problem. It seemed to start after Shawn added MSN and Yahoo to the scan capability. The problem is that I'm checking some sites that show the Google results properly and other sites that do not.

I know the tool is free and I hate to complain, but it does dramatically reduce it's value and reliablity.

I would check your settings (specifically the restrictions ones mentioned earlier).

When I add it to my KW tracker account, it shows as #1 and #2 (as expected).

I created 2 accounts to over-ride this problem. One handles all my Google, the other handles MSN and Yahoo!...

    How does that "override" it?

What ever the issue is between the two, having two accounts eliminates any issues. Override may not have been the best choice of words.

When you first unvelied the M and Y additions, I had nothing but problems, so I added an account and use it for only M and Y... Has worked wonderfully ever since..,

Well, that really wouldn't have anything to do with it... I promise there is no code in the system that checks to see if you are tracking Google (or Yahoo and MSN) keywords and decides to do anything different if you are. :)

Hmmm...well, I don't know what to say. I have no language or country restrictions. Are there other ones I'm missing?

Okay, checked what was up with your account specifically, and saw something I haven't seen before. The XML parser on your server (built into PHP) is returning the following:

The "document" it would be talking about though is the results from the Google API. I double checked that the Google API is returning proper XML (and it is), so the only thing I can think of is somehow your server is adding something to the request being made to the Google API.

I can't really test it any further without access to your server though.

But for now, I at least have the keyword tracker echoing back any unexpected error people's servers might throw.

Weird. But I switched the script to a different URL (and diffferent server) and it's working A-OK. So all's well that ends well. Thanks!

Yeah, whatever was going on with it definitely looked like some sort of weird issue specific to the server you had the script on. Now I'm wondering what the cause of it was...
