You guys got me off to such a good start at finally getting mey feet wet doing keyword research. I really appreciate you all. Now I have another question. How can a search term with no monthly or yearly average data (not enough data) have 25% (or any % as far as that goes) competition. Obviously I'm missing something.
Well the Google Keyword Tool is far from perfect. It does not have data for a lot of the lower volume keywords. Also keep in mind that the advertiser competition only refers to pay-per-click. Smart ppc advertisers bid on almost any relevant low volume phrase that they can think of. That is where the best ppc deals are. For example, if you sell widgets, you most likely would want to bid on every action keyword related to widgets...buy widgets, order widgets, purchase widgets, get widgets, find widgets, widget store, widget supplier, etc. Even though some of those phrases might not have search volume, they are still worth targeting with ppc. There are also the cases where people are bidding on broad keywords which include a lot of those low volume keywords.
