I'm working as a webmaster for over 4 years now. I'm from Turkey and started with a small site to test what I can do and to learn new things about html and so on. I'll start from basic so here we go. If you are a starter, here is how things work. There are 2 things that is important to you if you just started or thinking to start. 1-Domain 2-Hosting Lets think that a website is a store which sells goods. Domain is the name of the store and hosting is the place where you host your goods. Domains cost $7-10 /year on different registrers. You have to find a good domain which will give you some good google ranking since google cares about your domain name. Hosting prices change a lot depending on your need. So after you find a domain and a host you are ready to go! First thing you have to do is find a topic that you want to build the site on. It is always better to build a site on only 1 topic like "f16 fighting falcon military aircrafts". This way, you will receive targeted traffic to your website. While selecting your topic, and building your site, you can use some really good keyword suggestion tools. The best I've seen is DP's keyword suggestion tool. You can enter a keyword and it will show you how many times it is being searched so you'll build your site on these searches and expect some organic(search engine) traffic. If you have a targeted site like we are giving in the example, users will be TOTALLY interested with your topic. So even if you receive 1 person a day, he will search your site, look for information and use it later if he finds what he needs. This will bring you type-in traffic which is the best traffic you may have or want. You will fill your site with good information but the key point here is, not copy/pasting someone elses work and write something unique. If you want some unique content, you may hire someone from here for writing articles. If you hire him for 10 articles, this means you have 10 pages of unique content which will get you some organic traffic. After finishing your site, you will need to get indexed by major search engines like google, yahoo and msn. Here are the links for those: Add site to Google Add site to Yahoo Add site to MSN After submiting your site to major search engines, you have to wait them to crawl your site. With the help of unique content, you'll see some visitors on your site. This will be just the beginning. You may trade links with people who has sites on the same topic and this will help you too. After you submit your site, you can start to optimize your site for GOOGLE ADSENSE. Google adsense is the best program for most of the sites. If you are going to develop a site like I gave in the example, you should start with adsense. Adsense is a program which pays you per click(PPC). The pay rate depends on your topic(The advertisers payment). You get %70-%75 of what advertisers pay actually when Adsense Turkey published first, I read that it was %75 from their official site. So more people to your site, more you earn. Hope this article helps at least 1 person because I didn't have anybody to help me when I started. Here is my story: First opened up a site (myname).org . Worked on it with basic html with no topic, and sold it for $350 in 6 months. After that had several sites, 1 of them was getting around 15k uniques/day but untargetted so useless. Now I'm earning over $35/day and selling multiple sites every month and living on this. Please don't comment on this article like we all know this because I know some people really don't know the basics of being a webmaster and hope this really helps them out.
So basically your sites had completely crap traffic? 1 of them was getting around 15k uniques/day but untargetted so useless So you were spamming something to get traffic that was pretty much fake?
15k uniques/day but untargetted is quite amazing. How did you get all this untargetted traffic in the first place?
Google adsense doesn't pay well to my country. Also site was a toplist which was sending hits to webmasters which are registered. I wasn't spamming or anything
