I was replying to a post a couple of minutes ago about blog link exchange programs and in it I wanted to say "here's a site that does this sort of thing", with a link. When I tried to post though I got an error saying live links are disabled until after 10 posts. What's the reason for this? I know there's sometimes a problem with people registering for a forum, posting links to their site and then never coming back, but it's a bit annoying when I was trying to help someone by providing them with a link (I get nothing back, it wasn't an affiliate URL or anything).
pwaring, that's exactly the reason. It does not take long to get 10 under your belt. And don't think you're help is not appreciated. That's what this forum is about.
You can still type in the url, so it will still be helpful for for others. If the 10 posts rule wasn't in effect, the mods would have to delete spam posts ALL day long.
Well, I did type in the URL, it just makes life a bit more difficult for anyone who reads the post because they can't just click on it like they normally would.
Blasted thing has caught me out again because it tries to automatically wrap URLs in BBCode. I can't wait until I can post things properly...
And for the really lazy people, there's a FireFox Mod where all posted urls that aren't clickable, become live links.
I have a better idea, just keep TOPS and Fryman from responding to all newbies posts until after the peon has 25 posts, lest they scare them off the forum
*shrug* People are lazy, it's a fact of life - the easier you make it for them to do something, the more likely they are to do it. I'm sure you wouldn't like to navigate a site that just listed all its links without making them clickable.
That's why spam has to be prevented. If you make it easy for the spammers, the more likely they are to do it.
So TOPS what do you think of my idea in post #11, I know that it applies to Fryman, you are still in the fuzzy zone man
Not a bad idea I suppose. But then only newbies can help newbies. Not very progressive... If that's implemented I want a restriction for you as well. if(postcount($thread_starter)) > 0) { $ACpost_ability = FALSE; } or if(crap_density($ACpost)) > 1%) { $ACpost_ability = FALSE; }
But on a site like this where I frequently come for help, I am more than happy to cut and paste the helpful link of a respondent who has less than 10 posts
No TOPS, not true, my proposed rule would only apply to Fryman and possibly you unless you take it easy on newbies. Fryman is on the 25 post rule, until a new member has 25 posts, Fryman can not respond, this does not apply to all members here.
No, it is just a inside joke between me and Fryman, I have been on him to take it easy on Newbies and Compar made the threat to give Fryman demerit points if he is mean to Newbies. Good proposed rule though, right TOPS
Yeah. People should take it easy on noobs Fryman is just like the bouncers here in SW-London. They look at you like you're a criminal and make you feel like you should have been a 100 miles away at least. And even when you are ready to squander 100 quid, they still give you as much hassle at the door as they can. Could my limit be noob's post after 10 then, I'm not as bad as Fryuman am I? Or perhaps combine it with this rule... if((member_status == "Peon") or ($post_count < 10 )) { $next_post_content = "READ THE FAQ! USE THE SEARCH!"; } But seriously, I love all of them... Almost...
