hi all frrnz plz help me as i had got a laptop from my college which is a HP, and wen i am trying to install windows in it it is failing as wen the computer restarts after copying all the files the installation screen does not appear.....what can be the reason???
could be 1 of a hundred things.. first few that come to mind are.. a) might have a bad hard drive.. b) is it a real copy of windows. (not downloaded of the net) c) is the CD scratched or anything? installs are fairly straight forward.. if its not installing right, and a legal windows.. more than likely a hardware issue..
Are you trying to install a 64bit OS XP on a 32bit processor laptop ? sounds to me like you are doing so, please provide that information is your laptop 32bit? the Windows XP that you are trying to install is it 32bit or 64bit ?
But i installed the same copy of windows to my desktop first but wen i shifted to the laptop it fails.......
What is a 32bit the XP you are trying to install or you laptop processor is 32bit? please be a little more specific.
Both are 32 bit and all files in the cd are working properly...........i don't know this is happening only in my laptop...
It is better to ask your friends around you . There might be many reasons . Are the cd-rom and xp disk in good condition ?
Can you tell a bit more about your laps specifications.. I know that you cannot install xp on some new laptops they are only made for Vista... it sucks because i cant even install ubuntu on those..
is it detecting hard disk ,some laptop need sata drivers need to be install. Did you see the drives in XP setup Regards Alex
Guys, he says that he gets to the file copy and the reboot after that, which means that XP is detecting his HDD, no SATA problem in this case. @ErnestHemingway the problem is with the SATA controller that is not supported by Windows XP. You can simply switch the controller mode in BIOS to IDE before installing XP and all those Laptops will be able to install XP
Try to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the windows. It is also possible because of driver for some component are not available
reformating the harddrive isnt that easy if it already has a windows installed on it... i would go with blichev suggestion about the bios change... its a simple fix. after you do that itll work perfectly.
grab a new install cd, 9 times out of 10 when an install sh*ts out on me, i throw a different install disc in and it works just fine.
