I have been looking for Freelance writing work for over a month and I still haven't landed one.
What does it take to start with one - Am still unable to make out with that.

Can anybody suggest me which freelance site would best fit in for newbies like me?

For some good solid advice about making it as a writer try:

    http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/

The place is a mine of information about all genres of writing. There are not many jobs advertised, but plenty of tips about where to look.

I don't know what type of writing you want to do -- journalism, copywriting, sales letters. :) There could be a way to do some type of volunteer writing (there is a big difference between writing for a not-for-profit and writing for some schmo for FREE). That would at least give you a writing sample and a reference, a place to get started. Good luck! :)

I forgot to say.....try to look for writing gigs in things that really interest you. So if sports are a real favorite of yours, look for copywriting or magazines that relate to sports. Your knowledge will help you be a better writer for that project.

You can find work here on DP but because you're new you have to offer something really cheap and then increase your prices.

Try writing some long (300 words) blog entries about popular topics like technology and then sell them in the content section of DP. It'll start you off on the write track. Showing a few sentences as samples of your work would help you find a buyer. All the best!

Since you're new to DP, I suggest you open a thread in the content creation section, offering your services as a freelance writer. Make sure you list the topics of your interest. This is a good way to get started here.

You need to have a certain number of posts before you can open a thread.

    All the best!

    romele,
Do you know what your #1 product is? Yourself. Following that, your next product is a happy client. Do what you can to better yourself so you can make others happy.

Start writing a sales page for yourself. You know, Headline, credentials, testimonials, and the offer. This is your resume' of sorts. When your satisfied with your own copy about yourself, start driving traffic to your sales page with article submissions, forum posts, etc. Don't forget to set up a web 2.0 presence to you can interact with like-minded individuals.

When you can sell yourself, everything else will come easily.
