Nostalgia for Windows 98--Is it misplaced?

My first exposure to the Internet was through Windows 98. I now have Windows XP and have had gone through the various Microsoft platforms in between.

Yet Windows 98 still holds a place in my heart. At the time that I bought it (well, actually the computer with which it was bundled) in 1998 , music could still be downloaded for free (before the change in copyright laws), and it seems that the diagnostic tools were better.

Fellow DPF members, How do you feel about Windows 98? Am I looking at the past accurately, or am I seeing it through rose colored glasses?

I liked Windows 98 just fine, and it's nice to remember - but I don't think I'd like to go back and switch to that platform again anytime soon, because the advances in technology are pretty nice. Heh.

Windows 98 was great, however I still amaze people when they see me running DOS commands on any computer, they just go like, "What Is That Black Screen", I am still a young guy, but I have been using Windows since Windows 2.x, I still remember installing it on my 286 computer with 5 inch floppy discs.

Yes, '98 was in my opinion the most stable operating system. Now working on Vista I will not mind going back to Windows 95!!!!!!!

I think DOS is still there underneath it all. When I call my IP tech support for help, sometimes they will take me through various DOS commands via Start, Run.

Reason why windows 98 was the best, was because Microsoft had quality on its mind, now all they have is money on their greed minds.
