North Carolina Governor and plastic surgery queen Bev Purdue suggested we discontinue federal elections for our congressional reps, so they can focus on the business of the nation without worrying about being re-elected. Like most Democrats I'm sure she doesn't want a repeat of the landslide 2010 elections, which looks all but certain at this point. Later Tuesday afternoon, Perdue's office clarified the remarks: "Come on," said spokeswoman Chris Mackey in a statement. "Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Here is Governor Perdue's full statement. Read it and see if you think she was using hyperbole: source
No I don't. I would rather they stay worried.
That is so awesome!! I always suspected that liberals secretly admire dictatorship and hate democracy..
About the author: So here we have a Democrat and Vice Chairman of global banking at Citigroup who so happened to be the director of the OMB under Barack Obama, telling us we need to remove congressional ability to apply spending controls on the budget by democratic means. Would this be the right place to mention that Orszag got an $900,000 bonus on top of his $1.1 million dollar compensation package, taken directly from the bailout funds, within two months of the bailout and within 2 weeks of taking office in the Obama admin? Any questions?
This is even more awesome Two nations.. And of course his nation is the correct one, if you happen to think otherwise, you are fucking up the nation... Why is it so that ever since Obama has become the president there is an influx in authoritarian antics among his [so called] supporters?
I found myself wondering if this has happened before in the US, where public officials called for a suspension to public elections. It isn't Venezuela, but the desire to keep a grip on power is natural. I couldn't come up with anything from Google other than the usual Global Warming nutjobs calling for an end to democracy to save the planet. There was a low level Bush appointee who was pushing for the right to suspend elections in the event of a terrorist attack, but I can't find even a singe occurrence where US government officials have made the case to suspend elections over differences of opinion. If someone has the info, I'd love to see it. I'm guessing there must be something pre-civil war. Is there some other way to see this, than an open call for tyranny?
