Noob SEO question

If I have a backlink that is not related to my site at all, does it affect the ranking of my site on google?

Say I have a site about marketing and I post a comment on something such as games, does it improve / decrease my site ranking? Or it doesn't affect.

 

It'll still count, but won't help in SERP though.

every backlink will help you but relevancy give it more power

The non-related backlink as compared to related backlink is not much stronger as the second one is - Related backlinks would do long lasting SEO - and Results would stay for longer time which means less work and more benefit but in case of non related link it would help you in SERPS though but results would not be faster and long lasting.

 

It can help a little but ones from related sites are best. If site gets traffic you could get some extra traffic from link also.

From my experience if it is a high value backlink (ie. A link where the pagerank split is minimal) You will still get good value from the link. This is more important then the relevancy of the page the link is placed.

Outgoing links split the pagerank... so if you are on some page with 100 different links you will be getting 1/100 of the value of the page rank compared to splitting it 10 ways where it would be considered high value in that case.

 

I think it wont effect on your SERP! because that backlink will never justify your targeted keyword!

 

You can target the keyword in your anchor text and the link syntax.

Here is a little trick to do so.

And you would put out the links like this with anchor text

I think you can see the power of this neat little trick... In regards to building backlinks and targeting specific searches in the search engines.

 

All backlinks help, just some more than others.
