OK, very basic question from a very basic guy. I have created a blog and submitted both the blog's url and blog feeds to dozens of blog feed sites (thank you, masternewmedia's top55. I would like the blog to get traffic, obviously. I would also like the blog to drive traffic to my main site. I typically post my blog with a brief signature, which includes links to both the blog and the main site. I also use Tech Tags. When I post, the post pings all over the place. Will this alone eventually bring attention to the site - in other words, does it work by people searching for key words on blog sites, and my blog post would come up (and, presumably, they read it, like it, visit the blog url and add to their feed reader), or am I completely missing the boat and need to do other things? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul
I think you have to have some patience, and continue to develop inbout links. he most important thing you can do(IMO) is beef up content.
Hi My blog is relatively recent and traffic is building up quite quickly, basically from doing the same as you have. I would agree about the content. If you post every day you get more visitors, as listings on technorati etc are listed in the order of most recently updated. It will also depend on the topic of the blog. I'm not sure how popular Lake Superior is as a topic. One tip for getting more links is to send out a press release using a few of the free press release submission sites. I did this and traffic went up by a third in an instant (from 200 uniques to 300) The other way is to visit blogs which compliment your own, and comment on them, not just spam, but proper comments. You soon find that you pick up one or two visits, and it all ads up. For example, write an article about scuba diving in Lake Superior and I'll blog it which will give you some more traffic Andy
itexpress, and bschneider5, thank you. Good advice. Actually, the blog is an outdoors weblog. I live in the Upper Peninsula, which is a wilderness area, but the blog (and its parent site) are devoted to 8 outdoor sports or related categories. The blog has over 60 outdoor categories, including cooking, regional reports, news, and separate areas for fishing, hunting, camping, climbing, etc. Many thanks, both. Happy holidays. Paul
