my site is called PSU Forums .. and the domain is psuforums.com.

if i type in PSUFORUMS in google .. my site is number one. but if i type in psu forums, it comes up on the first page.. but at the bottom.

about 2 weeks ago .. when i would type in psu forums, my site was on the middle of the first page, now when i type in psu forums, my site has been pushed back to the second page. what is the reason for this??

Since your domain is psuforums.com that isn't a generic word, it shows up top 1 for 'psuforums'. now if you promote your page for the term 'psu forums' it would come up as top 1 :)

and the dancing bit is pretty normal, it takes some time to stabilize.

It gets bumped because Google is always changing and shaking things ups, with age your site will be more stable.

As fas optimizing for the 'psu forums' KW you have to use that as your anchor text when you link build, that way G will relate your site with that KW and you will rank better for it.

Build links with the anchor text "psu forums" instead of "psuforums" and you'll get #1. Not that anyone searches "psu forums" anyway? My site bounced around first page for a while before settling at #1 for "poker is rigged". Now I just need #1 for "poker forums" .... sigh.

The keyword you have used in the search is not a popular and hardly you use the keyword. Increase the popularity of your forum it will reached on the top in the result. But I suggest please try for some other keywords popularly used by the forum lovers.

Find a list of words that people would use to to find your site. Like "Penn State Online Community", "Penn State Forum", etc. Get those words into your page titles, description, h1 tags, and text.

Then build some links with variations of that text. You can start your link building with free directories. Take a look at my sig for a list.
