I have a quick question regarding a few things I have noticed from submitting my websites into directories and now receiving a few inquiries into my directory regarding the same matter. Many times I have found that only home pages are allowed for adding a url into a directory. No sweat on my end because that is all I ever add in anyways. However I recently received three seperate requests for submission into three seperate categories all from the same website. All three links to be added were related to each indivicual category but they were all subpages of their parent website. (i.e. website.com\driver\index.htm, website.com\kartshop\index.htm, website.com\training\index.htm) Is submission of such a url harmful on a directories search engines rankings? What are the cons to allowing people to list like this if there are any? the reason I ask is because while each individual page providing unique content for that particular category the absolute last thing I want is to be in bad standings with any of the se's do to accepting this type of listing. Thanks for all your feedback
No. The reason most directories don't allow internal page submissions is to cut down on spam, especially if you are a free directory. If you start allowing internal pages, you will be abolutely flooded with people submitting dozens of pages from the same website, thus adding to what is probably an already large workload. For strictly paid directories, this isn't such a problem since if someone wants to submit a couple dozen links from one domain they at least are paying for the privelege.
I appreciate your help. I wasn't for sure because I remember seeing this particular topic before while I was submitting to directories but just wanted to be sure before I accepted the submissions. Luckily mine is a niche directory so there will rarely be submissions like these into my little directory but since I finally got one I figured I would ask just to be on the safe side
You will often find that this also extends to subdomains, and sometimes even unrelated websites that have clearly been submitted by the same person. As well as saving time, you need to avoid linking into a bad neighbourhood, or an obvious network of sites. This is so that the search engine's spammy-network detection filters don't kick in (where several sites, often on the same class C, all link to each other but don't get that many external links in). Just you wait...
