I started by getting hosting with hostgator and also registerd a domain
    with them = best-diet-4-life.com

Well I had no problem working on this site but now i registered another domain through godaddy. Im trying to work on this site but am having problems.

My new domain =" invest-in-info" is showing up in the public_html folder of my first domain ="best-diet-4-life"
where the hell is this second domain suppossed to be and whith what file structure?

In dreamweaver i settup a new site pointing towards the new domain folder "invest-in-info"

And i made a quick index homepage to test and see if everything is working.

But when i type in my new domain in the adress bar it just shows up a list of folders, files.

I dont know what to do anymore - Ive spent months working on this web design and have only made 5 bucks with adsense and am getting depressed- please help

What extension does the index page have, .htm, .php?

Make sure that the domain is configured to pickup the right index page by default.

EDIT: Also, allowing the public to view folder lists is bad security. I would fix that asap.

Have you got two hosting plans? Also what extensions do you have?

I noticed that you registered the domains with different servers, your name servers may be wrong.

Btw is the second site invest-in-info.com?

invest-in-info is .com, how do i restrict the public from searching my folders/files?

I dunno what the hell is wrong...
Im still kinda new to this...
I have only one host- hostgator baby account
When i signed up I didnt have a domain so hostgator asked for me to sign one up which was bestdiet
I then registered investininfo from godaddy and added it to my hostgator account in cpanel

What folder should additional domains show up in? Because my new domain is in the public_html folder of my first domain....

I guess i just dont know what the hell im doing- thanks for the help guys!

You need to configure directory permissions on the server. Is it a Linux or Windows server?

You dont know what the hell you are doing. :D

When you have made the new domain as an addon domain your new domain should show up in the public_html folder. To me it sounds that everything is ok.

You say: "But when i type in my new domain in the adress bar it just shows up a list of folders, files."
That means that you dont have an index file. Or that the index file is not in the public_html/invest-in-info folder. Or your domain did not propagate yet, you have to use the hostgator name server on the new domain and after you have pointed that it can take up to 48 hours before it start working.

this domain has been propagated for a couple weeks now, I just now had time to fool with it.

I think its a linux server- im not even sure- i cant remember- how do i find out?sorry im a noob-hehe

My new domain is in my public_html folder, I opened dreamweaver and just wrote welcome and saved it as index so i could type in my domain in a web browser and see if the idex homepage would pop up but its not

If you are with hostgator you should not worry about anything linux or what ever. Its dead easy.

    - Set the correct name servers for the domain, propagate.
    - Make addon domain in cPanel.
    - Upload files to public_html/newdomainfolder

    Thats it.

Where did you go wrong ? Its hard to say without seeing it.

Did you go to 'addon domains' and in the blanks put in:

    New domain name: invest-in-info.com
    Username/directory/subdomain Name: nameofthefolderyouwillputthefilesin
    password: selfexplanatory

Hit 'add domain' and it will set up the folder and everything. Put the files in that folder and you are good to go.

I saved my first homepage as index and although it was an html file when i saved it as index.html it is now working also I went through my folders and deleted the public folder from my second domain folder then just edited my site info in dreamweaver to upload files to the base folder of my new domain.
Sorry for the thread- it was my own stupidity but thats what you get when you work a job, have 4 kids, looking for new house ect.. and it seems like when i take a break from my web design - when i comeback i forget stuff i shouldnt...ohwell again thanks to all and sorry for the post
