Basically Google and MSN seem to be indexing my site with the non www URL. I submitted my site to their index with the www version and this is how it appears on the webmaster tool on both the services. Now I do have the following in my HTACCESS file: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mywebsite.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mywebsite.com/$1 [L,R=301] Code (markup): But as far as I'm aware that's just to perform the redirect, not to specify the 'default' version of the URL. Do I need to add something else to my HTACCESS file?
you already got it taken care of. 301 redirect will redirect to www version and after few crawl, all your search engine results will show with www version
But I only just submitted my site to MSN a few days ago, how come Live Search has listed the non-www URL even though there is a rule specified to redirect to the www URL?
If you just recently added the non-www redirect, msn probably just hasn't revisited your website to notice that. Perhaps you have some external backlinks that don't use www. Give it time and both Google & MSN should index the correct version of your website. For Google, you can also sign up for Google Webmaster Tools. In GWT settings you can specify whether your default has www or not.
You may have just submitted the site to MSN but if it has been indexed by Google, then MSN already had it. It is very important for you to set up the Webmaster Tools for your site to handle this type of issue. I would highly recommend you do it.
My domain is registered without www. Does it affect my site's standing w.r.t search engines? Regards, RightMan
I went down a metal shoot in a upright position on a contraption that had a brake on the right. This was in Germany but I forgot where and I forgot what it was called. It would help me out a lot if you knew anything about this fun outdoor activity.
make sure you choose one or the other create backlinks for http:// or http://www. not both. Search engines treat them as two different sites.
