How many of you would use a non web browser based forum. Software based forum. Ive yet to find one and currently developing one. Will have all features that all forums now-a-days have and more.

Is that even possible? What are the advantages over a web based? Could you combine a webbased with it? Let me know as I may be able to help you out or sponsor your project if it makes enough sense.

I don't mean to sound cold, but why would someone want to use a software based forum when they can use their browser?

Its very much possible. One advantage I believe is that it would load faster. Combining it with web based ones would be possible, BUT they both would have to share the same database, user database and post database as well as the other information stored in the forum database.

    hope that made enough sense.

Wouldn't it just be easier to simply double click a program on your desktop and be at the forum instead of going to web browser, typing url. ect. ect.

Also forgot agent272, if you ever used AOL, they have message boards that are not web browsing based message boards (forums)

Not really. If you're browsing the internet and decide to go to your forum, it's a lot simpler to just select it in the address field.

What do I know though? Good luck with your project.

    It's a solution looking for a problem.

On the plus side you'll get better at programming.

I went the other way for my project. I've been working on a game in Java and needed a supporting app to edit maps and whatnot. Rather than writing the application as a stand alone program which is the norm, I wrote a web 2.0 site using PHP 5, JavaScript, Ajax, CSS and mySQL 5. Not only can I easily put together maps but I can also manage all the game resources and do image editing if needed. Things that would be a big pain to implement off the web.
