Say my main keyword is Headless chicken, but 90% of my keywords are "cat","mouse" and "dogs". The question is, does it do anything to bring my main keyword up? I mean, if I post those non relevant keywords on Pr 2-3 sites, then shouldn't it bring my relevant keyword up in google too?
Hmm thats an interesting question, I am not sure how much more valuable the right anchor text is than something somewhat irrelevent. I think only Google knows but maybe someone here has done some experiments or knows via some other way. I am kinda curious about this too.
It may produce a minor improvement to your rankings. But used in excess, such unrelated anchor text may cause "headless chicken" rankings to drop (see below). For you to rank for those keywords, "cat, mouse, dog, etc.," they must appear on your page in at least a minimal density. Stick with your primary subject. If your keyword is "headless chickens," try chickens without heads, head off chickens, head less chickens, etc. The better your rank for your primary subject, the better other keyword rich pages on your site will rank. If you start going off topic with your link building efforts, your site may suffer a penalty.
I think this is correct, I noticed when switching anchor text my original rankings dropped as the new ones improved. This must be googles way of not letting anyone spam their way to the biggest peice of the pie.
target your main keywords when it got rank then start to promote your other pages on different - different keywords
Hi, It is usually good practice to get links with various anchors. If you are getting too many links with the same anchor, google may list you as a bomber. If you are doing your SEO properly, you will naturally get some links where the anchor is your URL or your company name. Then try to get anchor links with your main key expression, and as well a little bit with some minor key expression. If you have various keywords which can bring good traffic, then, you can try to rank a deep-page (or even a subdomain) which specifically target this other keyword. After a while, you will notice that your site appears with your main key-expression, your minor key-expression, and with a bunch of other requets that you didn't specifically target. That's called the long-tail phenomenon. Depending on your topic and on your website, this long tail, can in the end bring you more people that your main request.
