Non-performing Adsense pages

Realising that some pages on my site with adsense on make little or nothing and show some of the same ads as higher earners, I have decided to take adsense off a couple of these low earners hoping this will push overall eCPM up a bit. Any thoughts?

There's been a lot of talk about that lately, i personnaly advise you to test for a few weeks, if you didn't notice any changes put it back like it was!

If you receive less clicks on certain pages, why not replace it with higher payout advertisement like chitika? FYI, the payout per click for chitika is higher than adsense. May be you can try it with couple of weeks. Only trying and testing can optimize your internet revenue. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies, I will certainly test it out for a month or so and post the results. I'll look into Chitika as well.

Just remember that according to Google even a page with a low CTR can be one of your best converting ones. That is is you are taking this step into consideration due to smart pricing.

It doesn't matter what your eCPM, what you really care about is earnings. You can push your eCPM up, but you impressions will drop and earnings will most likely drop too.

How do you benefit from having a higher eCPM? Does google reward you with better ads?

I just thought that pages on my site that had a fair amount of visitors, but had made say $2 in 3 months, were not really worth having adsense on.

Consider why people come to the pages. To read? If so then clicking on ads may not be a priority

to find links to other sites (from say a directory)? then clicking on relevant links will be a priority.

I run adsense on a variety of sites and without a doubt my directory is the only one paying it's way from the adsense perspective.

I see what you mean, a content rich article is not likely to get many clicks. Better with a contents / index page - like my homepage which has a pretty good CTR.
