    Which is better?

I have a forum site so having my homepage change constantly is not a problem. Obviously my internal pages change constantly.

But am I better with a homepage that is content rich but doesnt change or doesnt change much?

The site im referring to is: Lincoln vs Cadillac Forums

People say that updating content on your pages helps with the spidering. Personally, I've never seen anything to indicate that it helps.

However, where I can, I still make a point of trying to have updated content on main pages because it's useful for human users as well - and where they refer to internal links, it helps with the indexing.

I think having good fresh content is a good thing.

I use a php script to randomly insert testimonial text into the home page of two of my sites... both these sites get spidered pretty much daily (for what its worth :) ), as compared to several other sites that can go several weeks

What's the PR of that page though?

We have one PR3 page which gets spidered every 48hrs and frshly cahced every few days. Content stays the same for months on end.

For speeding up indexing based on "fresh content" wouldn't you need a Last Modified Header? If so, what script are you using to insert a "LMH" on your PHP pages?

Both pages I am thinking of are PR4 (I've just checked and the latest cache for the one with no updated content was 25th November  I'll keep an eye on it - used to get cached every 10-14 days or so, where as the one with the random content would be cached every 14-48 hours)

All I use is a script that generates a random include for the content... it was never an seo strategy, I just liked showing a different testimonial each time someone visits the page. The caching behaviour was something I just happened to notice.

i think Google goes by both LMH and on page changes as each on the own is not very accurate.
