Nominal Fee directory only - good idea/bad idea?

This is a request for thoughts and opinions. I currently have a free directory which has garnered a fair amount of interest (approaching 10,000 links.) I am wondering what experiences you have had with starting (from scratch) a pay only directory. What I have in mind is a directory that charges a nominal (1 dollar?) fee for ALL listings, perhaps a bit more for highlighted listings.

I imagine getting started would take longer. (You say free and people come out of the woodwork...) But, long term I would think you would be cultivating a slightly better quality of sites. Overall what good/bad experiences have you had with running (or submitting to) directories that charge a small one dollar fee for ANY listing.

    Thanks for the input,

    Avery

This depends on the PR of your directory. If it's pr4 and above, it will be ok, or it's useless.
