Sorry, Gurpreet, but the answer to your question, in any currency, is Zero Rupees.

Nokia protects its trademark name via the WIPO and other means. You're likely to receive a domain transfer demand from an Indian attorney (since you're in India) who is working for Nokia.

http://listbox.wipo.int/wilma_glimpse/domain-updates?query=nokia&Search=Search"] is a link to some cases decided by the WIPO under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy which, in virtually all cases, holds for Nokia.

Sorry, but when you purchase a domain with a registered trademark known worldwide, you're likely to lose it (as I suspect you'll personally find out).

PS: What did you pay for the domain?

i took the domain right now after it was dropped.

am not sure abt the copyright issues, but i guess it can be developed into a nice site.

I'm glad you didn't spend a lot of money on the site since the underlying issue remains: You have a domain that contains a well known trademark.

I suspect you'll still have to deal with an attorney fairly soon. In the event that you don't, good luck with your development plans.

What are you planning to do?
And for future purposes, this should have been in the appraisals.

The last time I did work for a Nokia Division, they had to get their legal department clearance before we could host the site with 'nokia' in their domain name. Nokia is rather strict with usage of their name anywhere without their explicit consent.

It is best to not do anything with the domain name or else you will have to deal with Nokia legal department.

i guess best will be to send an email to nokia first and ask them if we can develop a fan site for nokia phones with some really nice things for users. This site can serve as a phone reviews site.

Lets see what happens. I just got this domain as it was deleted, so not much of money, but it is something interesting.

    go on visioninfotech ;)
if Nokia really needs that domain then u still have the chance to sell it to them by $$$ .. so they will have the option either to use a lawyer and pay him $$$ or maybe more , or to give u $$$ and end up this thing..
    just my 2 cents .

Nokia has their own legal department so they do not need to incur additional cost to get their own lawyers to do anything.

    even though!
similar issue happened for yahoo flickr domain (the story is posted somewhere in DP) and they preferred to buy the domain by around 500$ instead of following legal matters ..

i thought of same, but at times the lawyers are having free time and they convince their client to rather pay their fees than to give compensation

Did you read Eddy's response? Nokia, as most of large corporations, have attorneys as regular salaried employees. So they're not incurring any additional cost, aside from possibly time (but even that is minimal in this case).

The bigger issue for them is precedent. They don't want to set a precedent for buying out TM domains even for $xxx, as then everyone will start registering nokia4me.com, nokia4you.com, nokia4bravesquatters.com, etc. Well, you get the point.
