Hi, I've heard that some hackers are buying this really old cell phones (1100 Nokia) for like $10k+. Are you aware of this? I've just did a quick search and here - Nokia 1100 selling for $2k What do you think guys?
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent...t_know_why_criminals_want_our_old_phones.html I hadn't heard of that before, there's one selling for $25,000 here..! Obviously it's some sort of dodgy activity, the seller has no feedback for one thing. I would stay well clear. P.S. I still haven't changed my opinion, that this forum is supposed to be for discussion about EPN, the eBay affiliate network, not eBay buying and selling in general.
This auction looks like insane... in india they are still available for may be $20 (used) Unreal auction...
It's a particular series, with a particular factory code, supposedly those phones have a bug that can be used to spoof caller ID and obtain people's bank passwords via SMS, or something. No-one seems to be sure if that's really true or not, but it doesn't stop some hopeful people from trying to sell their beaten up old 1100 for the price of a family car!
Of course it's the cheapest but the thing that hackers can do with the software of that phone to capture credit card pins or numbers is the thing that actually brings you money. However the phone must be designed in Germany, Bochum so you can sell it for that much...
If you can get your hands on the firmware to load into the cellphone, DO IT (o and if you aren't worried about stealing people's bank info). But yeah, it's real...I had friends in China that used to do this. Scary how many stolen CC's they have over there!
