Hello Question: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX,FOLLOW"> Does this prevent that spiders follow external links or external and internal links. Let's say somebody has nofollow on his index page and there might be comments with spamlinks. If this meta is added, will the spider still follow my own, internal links Thanx and regards Mavi
This tag tells robots not to index the content of a page but ask them to follow all links on the page, internal or external.
yup, you need NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW better yet, it's best not to have any spam links. Sometimes, Google will follow even when nofollow attached.
If I understood Google correctly, a link with 'nofollow' does not dilute your PR, nor does it augment the PR of the target. cheers, gary
There are people (and I know you won't believe this) that spam forums and blogs with posts that include a link. Their purpose is to increase page rank by the large number of links toward their site(s) of interest. Now, each link on your page slightly reduces the power of that page, while increasing the value of the target page. Make the link rel="nofollow", and the spammer loses his benefit while you protect your own rank. The spammer still gets some additional traffic, but the primary reason for his posting is gone. You might also have a link on one of your own pages to one that you don't want to empower; say you're writing about good practice and want to show an example of the bad. Make the link nofollow, and Google doesn't increase his PR, nor does it dilute your own. There is even talk among Microformat developers and within Google about the value of rev="vote-for"||"vote-against", kind of like a rep system. Imagine the spammer, he posts on your blog working the PR, but you add a rev="vote-against" that knocks his PR down. Now, that's a hoot. cheers, gary
