I want to add a blog in a sub-domain and feed information into my main site. I do not want anyone or any SE's to even know it is there. If I do this and no-index the sub-domain and no-follow all links to and from, will this have a negative effect anywhere on the main site? Inquiring minds want to know!
duplicate content might hurt your SE ranking but you can put code that will block bots in crawling your site..
Hoping that no-indexing would keep the dup content out and I wouldn't link to the blog and no-follow the RSS feed into the main site. In theory I think it would work but lots of stuff "in theory" works
if you put the feed info on the main site and make it nofollow, then SEs will not follow (keep in mind that some SEs do folloe nofollow links) but people will see the feed info there on the main site. if you dont want anyone to know about the feed, then why put it on the main site? if you are interested in getting the feed submitted to feed directories, then you only have to generate the feed and dont have to link to the feed from the main site. just put the feed file under the main directory so that it has its own URL wihich will be enough for the feed submission
It is just a "lazy" way to feed news into my site about my niche. Wanted to copy AP and Reuters news into a blog and feed into main site. Don't want the blog to be recognized by SE's, feed submissions, no one. Just their for my personal use. This way when you click on news, I will turn summary feed off, and you get the whole story in the main site. In this case the blog is just a tool I would rather be invisible. Thee are other ways to do it - this just seemed easiest.
