I know Google sometimes interprets external links in the footer as "selling links". (I am not selling links, BTW.) But I was wondering if it would be OK to put some nofollows in the footer. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Google guidelines actually says that you can sell links if you put a nofollow or redirect the link, so its fine to put a nofollow.
Awesome! As long as we're on the topic, I tend to have a lot of affiliate links on my pages. Do you think I should be changing those to nofollow as well? Thanks for the responses.
Some believe it's a good idea to no follow all your irrelevant links, it won't hurt your site if you no follow all your affiliate links.
yes, Google does not count nofollow backlinks from any site, so you can give external nofollow links to another sites
having a link in the footer doesn't mean you are selling links. you can have dofollow or nofollow links in the footer. having nofollow is 100% safe and if you want to use dofollow links, then make sure links are pointed to other sites that are related to yours. this way it will look like you are just linking to other resourceful sites
are you using those free themes that have links in the footer? in that case it is not ethical to nofollow the sponsor links (since these themes are just distributed free for links). If you are allowed to manipulate the links in the footer then it is always a best practice to nofollow all the external links.
Yes, of course! Put a nofollow in all affiliate links. Otherwise you are passing valuable page rank to those companies.
