Hey, I searched around and got conflicting information. If I leave relevent comments on peoples sites, only having my name in the comment linked to one of my sites, does that still count as a backlink if there are nofollows on it? I want to know if I am wasting my time doing this or not, I'm trying to build up as many backlinks that are relevent as possible. Thanks
There are many threads pertaining to No-Follow but basically it is like this: A no-follow does not pass any PR juice from Google but it does help you wih position and is true with the other search engines! I hope this helps!!
google developed the nofollow tag for this purpose, because blog comment spamming was getting crazy. When the google bot sees the nofollow link that doesnt mean that it doesnt follow the link, it simply means that it will not pass PR or Link Reputation to the page it is pointing at. Yahoo and MSN to my knowledge still follow this link so this would still benefit you for those search engines hope this helps Floor Guy
I have a habit now of before posting a comment or registering on a forum to view the source and see if they use Rel="nofollow" on user posted links. If they do I quickly leave...
This topic is discusses many times here.Even yesterday. NoFollow = Spider plz Don't follow this link DoFollow/Follow = Spider plz follow this link And if ur commenting on the blogs with ur name and link as site to nofollow .There is no use.
While I am very much in favor of "DoFollow" Blogs, if a "NoFollow" blog has good traffic to it and you post a good comment, there is still the advantage of getting traffic to your site from the blog. I post to many "NoFollow"blogs just for the traffic.
I post no-follow blogs like problogger and others because there are thousands of visitors interested in the same information and some of them might check your site and become your subcribers.
If a blog has no-follow tags or if it doesn't, it doesn't matter as I will still post there. There reasons for my post is because I have something worthwhile to contribute to the article that I had just read on the blog page. It also helps with some traffic aswell I guess if it's a popular blog.
Your right actually, I posted on John chow's blog a few times and it surprisingly out of even 100 or more comments on the page it drove a trickle of Traffic to my site for few day. But its only temporary and no SEO benefits because of the no-follow tags.
here is a possible proof of nofollow link to count. backlinkwatch.com shows 3 backlink from techcrunch, those are the comments I have left. but total number of comments I made on techcrunch is more than 20... I think a nofollow link is counted when it passes some visitors to your site.
Nofollowed links still count for Yahoo, MSN and potential link traffic. So there is still some value there.
I agree with adacprogramming... If you are simply wanting links for just PR then nofollow will not help. However, if you are wanting links for PR and SERP then nofollow links are just as good. The reasoning behind getting a high SERP is organic traffic. Organic traffic can also be found clicking through blog links...as humans follow rel=nofollow and in the end it's humans you are wanting to visit your site.
