I remember the time when I was able to read 99% of the threads at the forum... now it is just impossible! I walk out for a few hours and 8 pages of new threads have been posted

Amazing how this forum has grown in such a small amount of time.

If the owner or the mods do this then they start making rules in this forum, which once you against. Because when they start putting rules in Buy, Sell or Trade forum. Then other member will post seem thread like this asking for another rule again.

Let those selling with out URL sell their sites with including their site URL, or maybe easier for the mods and admin if they put a sub forum for those non url thread.

I think it is fine that the URL is not supplied in the post.

BUT I agree with some early comments - Would be a good idea to place an info page on the site for sale - www.siteforsale.com/saleinfo.html - that way people that are interested can check it out - After the sale this page can be removed. Information provided should be forced as a min to be age of site - PR - URL - stats - Any income based on period. Maybe a DP html template could be offered - so everyone knows what to supply.

Web people are just to busy to these days, why should posting people waste time - I dont like the PM thing either - When you receive the PM its like which site were you? Are we in different time zones? Ah I would have brought the site - but I got the info 2 late. So many problems when people dont supply URL to check. If you understand SEO from the URL you can work out most things you need to know - then its proof of revenue and stats after that for really interested parties. My 2 cents....

Start one in the suggestion area along with a link to this thread. Then its up to Shawn to decide, although I don't see it happening for the reasons I have already listed.

Well, theres definetely no reason to curse someone over or shower them with reds for not posting the URL, its upto the person who is conductiong auction, they could've their own reasons.

But, i personally would prefer URLs posted in auction.

No URLs should be provided in sales threads...it's a pain in the ass if you ask for the URL and turns out you're not even interested. It wastes time, causes thread bumping, and there's no reason for it.

Why would one try to hide something like the URL when it's a flippin' sales thread!

Good Idea, I'm sick of copping annominous red rep from this thread.
It looks like a few people have an interest in keeping URLs hidden :(

Just read through this... The real issue seems to be the constant bumping of threads by "PM me please" posts. I like sitepoints method where no bumping occurs at all in the "sell your site" forum. With this method adopted, a seller can hide his URL for whatever reason, and ppl can feel free in posting PM requests.

Granted, even the better and higher quality sales will be pushed off quickly to the second and third pages by new entries.. but with the user CP feature one will always be informed of new updates to a thread they've been following. I think maybe the reason why this works so well at sitepoint is the pages at sitepoint are longer?!, or is it because they charge the $9.95 fee.

Anyways, just thought I'd mention this as no one braught it up.

Agreed.... what do you think, ysf1? Any thread in the buy/sell section would slowly go down and not be bumped up by any replies in it.

DP has 30 listings on the forumdisplay template, and they have 40 at sitepoint.. so it might not work as well here... but it should be worth considering IMO

I think that this rule should apply to EVERY sales forum including domains!!! Look at this thread:

Moderator: Please move this entire thread to the Suggestions/Feedback Forum with a link showing that it moved.

I actually think it is more relevant in this section, everyone gets to read it here, I'm probably like a lot of others and rarely read the Suggestions/Feedback Forum. It's a matter of time and as D/P has grown so large we just don't have the time to sift through the forums anymore.

I agree that displaying URL's for Domains and all sales threads should happen as well.

There is another thread in sales, currently with 39 replies, nearly all saying PM me the URL, it's bloody ridicules.
I'm not going to bother PMing the guy but their is a damn good chance I would have bought his sites as they seem to be what I look for.
However we will never know because he won't post the URL.

I dont think this is a very good idea to implement at all. Fair enough the select few who see the sales thread are subscribed and keep up to date with email reminders, but what about all the other potential buyers who never see the sales thread at all cause it's no longer on the first page?

If it were compulsary to have URL's posted in the sales thread, a solution for this issue wouldn't have to be addressed at all.

Yeah if the "PM me" replies didn't bump the threads I guarantee people would start posting their URLs in the threads.
