Having sitelinks had absolutely NOTHING to do with any so-called 'authority site'. Google doesn't award 'authority status', it doesn't mean anything.
They are using sitelinks more and more for sites with the appropriate structure. That's all it means.

NSE seems to be the National Stock Exchange of India, I guess they get a lot of links from the high-PR media websites...

I curious as to what traffic level gets a website these sitelinks. All info welcome ...

By only Title, i don't think G will considered which website is authorizes or not.
There is many factor works after it, like traffic, back links and PR.
Nifty is the biggest stock exchange in India.

The big websites like NSE never take burden to promote themselves, they usually develop a website just for their records purpose so that they have some web presence at least. People find them through search engines for their information and website get enormous traffic. And Google use to give priority to authority websites.

I think an authority site is a site that is best on its field of service. Example of this is Rottentomato.Com, this site is one of the top in terms of Movie Reviews, so its considered an authority site.

What I have understood Google Authority is given to the website which has the authority in terms of some keywords/key phrases.

Like in case of NSE -
it is showing authority link while search for nse, nse india, national stock exchange, national stock exchange india, national stock exchange of india but it is not showing links while search for national stock exchange in india

That means NSE is an authority website for the bunch of keywords (according to Google).

    Comments welcome...

Try to search yahoo or msn on Google.com, you will find them as authority websites for their brand keywords with many authority links with the main URL but when you search google on Google.com it is not showing any authority link below its main URL.

In short defination would become like:

"authority site=famous website of a reputed company or business"
