No search box on aStore?

Discussion in 'Amazon' started by marketjunction, Nov 24, 2007.

    Hey guys,

I just spent a little time building an aStore and I noticed (using iframes) that there isn't a darn search box on the store?

    What gives? Search is mandatory?

Is there a hidden option or way to do this?

    Thanks for any help.

Not mine. It says powered by Amazon and then the browse category stuff right under it.

    Absolutely no search.

    Ah ha!

    I found the issue.

My store has all hand-picked items, so I don't get a search box. Now that's stupid.

If you let Amazon decide what goes in your store, you get a search box.

Who the heck comes up with this stuff?

Uhh...Amazon does. I think it's easier to let Amazon pick the items, the products always change. We can make sub-items(sub-menu, what should I call it:confused:) under the main items/menu/list .

If I were doing something based of an existing category, I would just let them fill it up. But, this was a specialty thing, so I had to find and select all the items.

I can't believe there isn't a search box though. I guess they just figured it would be easier this way. I'm guess the search box just queries Amazon's main category selection and that's why custom astores get the shaft.

Probably the search box isn't available when you hand picked the items is because Amazon don't think it's neccessary. You can only pick 9 items right? They don't think anyone would bother to use it.

No. The store shows 9 items per page.

You can handpick 540 items per category.

So there is a reason to use search. :)

I've never used the hand-pick method, but if it doesn't come with a search box and you really need to hand pick items, here's an idea for you. Embed your astore in an iframe on a separate page that has a sidebar, then get an amazon search box from the widgets and place it on the sidebar.

I figured this out. yes, if you add products manually you lose the search box. But you can add all the products under a chosen category and retain the search box. So choose add whole category when adding products to your astore.
