I regularly submit my religion website (sigs below) to directories. But I notice that quite a few directories do not have a “Religion†subcategory. Most do, under “Society > Religionâ€, but a surprisingly large number of directories do not. Directories being a business, I am confident that in almost all cases this is not a personal thing, but simply an inadvertent overlooking of a major subcategory. And Religion is indeed a major category on the internet. Consider two things: • Check DMOZ or Yahoo and you’ll see a wide array of Religion categories and a ton of submissions in those categories. • In the USA there are more people attending church services on any one Sunday than there are attending the entire season of games in professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey combined! (It's true. Run the numbers.) I have made this post in an attempt to alert some directory owners to a very popular category (Religion) that your directory may have overlooked.
Hi Jim Thanks for pointing this out, i may run through my directories tomorrow and see where i can place a relevant category. Maybe it should even be a top category, as of course there are many religions that could justify adding the subcats. Rather than rush and just put a religion cat anywhere, il think about where it should go and put things in place on each of my directories. Sorry about missing this obvious topic.
Pipes, I'm glad it was helpful. As far as where to place a Religion category, that's a personal judgment call. FWIW, most directories who list Religion put it in "Society > Religion". I think that is a good choice. Some directories list it under "Arts > Classical Studies (or Classical Arts) > Religion". I do not think that is as good as placing it under "Society". Here's why — putting it under "Classical..." suggests that religion is just related to ancient cultures, when in fact the overwhelming majority of people on earth in 2008 hold to one or another religion. So I lean to "Society" as the best category under which to list Religion. That acknowledges its current relevance to billions of people today.
I agree that Religion is under Society and Culture category. http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Religion_and_Spirituality/

Here is one I just found (It isnt my directory) http://www.slashdirectory.com/Society/Religion_and_Spirituality/
Here you go Jim - http://www.nobledirectory.com/Society___Culture/Religion/ Had some good idea about it earlier already and added different religions too
Hi Jim I found this directory has exactly what you are looking for. Society/Religion This one has it as main category -- Religion & Befiels
We do have a sub-category for religion. If looking to submit, submit to: http://www.blogaboutmysite.com/directory/society/religion_and_spirituality/ - Use coupon code in my siggy.
Yes, you've done a good job with the Religion listing, even breaking it out into greater detail than most have. I'm happy to be in already, with an existing Featured listing for my "Pentecostal Sermon Central".
Thanks Jim.. I knew it was yours.. and i wanted to say that it is good that you come up with some nice suggestions about categories and these things help me make my resource better with more redefined categories Do let all the directory owners know with these kind of suggestions always so that we may try to make it more user and submitter friendly rather than just the webmaster prone directory!
It is absolutely necessary to have a wide range of categories available for submitters considering the content and related neighborhood of sites listed in each page is important for SEO. Many directories as you said said have Religion & Spirituality category listed under Society.
I don't know if your sites are listed in Here already, feel free to add them at your leisure, also if you have a Banner, it can make a big difference when displayed amongst other listings.
Thanks Jim, ive gone for listing Religion under Society as suggested, then listing the main sub categories like Christianity, Islam etc, then breaking down into further sub categories.
