I started my own Web Design business: http://www.cagintranet.com And for almost 3 months i have had absolutely no PR. I have emailed Google to find out if my site has been penalized, but they only sent be back a standard reply explaining that they do not manually establish PR - which i already knew. My site has been steadily rising in Yahoo searches, but in Google, i am not even in the results for "pittsburgh web design" or "affordable pittsburgh website design". I am wondering if anyone out there has any ideas why this is? Thanks in advance.
cagintranet, The Toolbar pagerank gets updated roughly ever 3 months, that is why your PR hasn't been updated. You'll get PR on the next update. FYI, although the toolbar PR is 0, it does not mean Google hasn't assigned it PR. You have very few links to your site, if you want to rank well for anything, you have to start getting more links to your site.
mariense, Thanks.. that makes sense... and i wish getting incoming links was that easy. ive been trying for about a month (i wanted to make sure my site was presentable before i started submitting). And the previous forums saying when the PR will update in April... is that the toolbar PR is what they are talking about?
PR and rankings have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Just be patient and continue gettingmore backlinks for your site. Google will give you PR when it feels like it, you never know when
I know it is hard, but good things aren't easy in life. And the golden rule for webmasters is patience. Search engines take a long time to show changes.
That's all true, the only thing I would change is make it a bit more specific: GOOGLE takes a long tome to show changes. I can make a change in an anchor text and see results in MSN within a week.
msn is more responded to aggressive marketing since Bill Gates is pretty aggressive when it comes to business.
MSN's traffic has been exactly the same since it was launched. No improvement at all. What the heck is Gates wating for? I want my top 5 rankings to be worth something!
Thats no damn lie. I was convinced I would never have any ranking in google, not even top 1000, until one night I checked, and they decided to remove the handcuffs from me and I was top 10 in a keyword I was seriously targeting. 9 months of nothing on googlerankings . com, and almost overnight, I was on the first page.
I kind of know what you mean, but this type of statement always annoys me. More backlinks=higher PR. More backlinks= better rankings. Therefore, they have SOMETHING to do with each other. Higher PR means you a better chance at higher rankings. For competetive keywords SERPs, low/no PR sites are non-existant or extremely rare. Higher PR also means you will be able to obtain better recip links, which indirectly contributes to your pagerank AND ranking. Once again, demonstrating a relationship between the two factors.
If you pay attention to PR you will get confused and miss the boat. Ever since I got rid of the foolbar, my rankings have increased because I focus on networking with quality sites instead of blindly looking at a number which can go from 7 to 0 in a day if the webmaster makes a wrong move.
I agree, forget PR and concentrate on backlinks (with relevent anchor text) I know it's easier said then done as many webmasters won't trade links with a PR0 site. Try pointing out that your site has been cached by Google - hence is not banned. Also try submitting to as many directories as possible.
I completely agree - so i cant forget PR - i have to atleast keep an eye on it. and for the post that said something about MSN being pretty quick to cache the site, i have seen the exact oposite: I am ranked very well in Yahoo; #6 after only 2-3 months Not ranked, but almost every page is cached in Google; In MSN I have only about 5 pages cached that are not showing in results at all i wish i had the answer of what i was doing right with Yahoo..
Sharpseo, I took a look at your hair loss site. How do you get any $$$$ from it? I don't see any Adsense banners, and you don't seem to be selling any product. Made me wonder, since I also have a hair loss related site.
We're pretty early in the link building process, very competetive term as you know. I'll be putting ads up once we have some decent exposure.
