I'm looking at a site for a potential client. The site is about 800 pages, the homepage has PR4 yet none of the internal pages have any PR. I can't mention the actual URL - If you're interested in taking a look PM me. The home page is basically a gateway page that allows users to select the language they want to use. This then links out to a url such as www.domain/dynamic/main/index.php?LANGUAGE=xxx personally I'd prefer to mod-rewrite out the dynamic/main bit and make it www.domain/language/index.php but even with the original URL structure I'd expect PR to be passed to the internal pages. Can anyone come up with any ideas as to why PR isn't passed internally - G does regularly cache the pages and they have been around for quite a while (>1year).
Stats and rankings are all that's important at the end of the day, but this could be an instance where PR is useful. If PR isn't passed down from the homepage to internal pages, then in my mind it indicates that something is wrong - the actually PR doesn't matter a monkeys - fix that something and SERPs might increase as well. If something's wrong with a site, ie PR isn't being distributed from the homepage, then it could well be affecting things other than just PR. I know that PR is pointless, but it is a good indication that things are happening within the site as they should be. Because PR isn't being distributed from the homepage, there is something wrong with this site and I have to find out what.
I agree, jlawrence. It may have something to do with the URL strings or it may be something else. If you want to PM me the URL, I'll have a look...
Will PM, but I've just found a few interesting things that are being done my the webmasters I will be having an fun phone call to their so called experts later today - I will enjoy that
