They don't give any referrals (well, just a few):( . I get more referrals from MSN. Of course most of them come from Google. I thought it was easier to rank in Yahoo than Google.

In December and January I was on the front page of Yahoo for and received a lot of traffic, February arrived and Yahoo dropped me back a few pages.

Last week I got #10 or last on the first page of Google for the same term, something I thought would never happen as it is a really popular term.

What surprises me is I don't get as much traffic from Google as I did from Yahoo, and to make matters worse the conversion rate from Google is well below the rate for traffic from Yahoo  .

#2 on Yahoo. That position and the description that comes up for the site which was better on Yahoo than Google is probably what makes the difference.

I'm still surprised though as a lot of people say that being on the third page of Google is better than the first page of Yahoo.

I find that yahoo can provide some very up to date results on what is happening NOW.

Where as google results can be a little stale.

I feel the same way. some google results are even targetted. Too many people have been taking advantage of them, especially with those sites iwth like 1000 links that lead to nowhere and back.

just as a search engine user (not as a webmaster) i'll go for Yahoo/ MSn. It's because google always show it's adbased nature. It's because i'm a technology stdent..

But if i'm gonna purchase something then i'll go for goole, as it gives products than technology details :)

On the same two keywords on google and yahoo, in the same posisition, yahoo gave me more people.

Not to mention a lot of other large search engines run off yahoo as well (lycos).

i prefer MSN for new sites. Google factors in too much weight on a website's age.

Yahoo is still one of the most visited websites in the world. Getting good ranking Yahoo is either difficult nor easy. My recommendation is to update your website with unique content as often as possible. Yahoo, like many other search engines including google loves fresh and unique content. I get quiet decent tarrific from Yahoo.

Totally agreed... as a surfer I use yahoo because their search result is more updated than google. Maybe because they don't have sandbox.

Thats a very good point...if there is a sandbox :D it's a backwards idea....in this fast moving world new sites tend to have better more up to date relevant information than sites 6 months or older.

For example, In electronics, media, medicine etc, how many products are outdated after six months.....a lot.

The newer sites tend to be updated more than older ones, people drop off updating ater the novelty wears off.

About 25% of my traffic is from Y! search. That's being #2 for my most important phrases and #1 for secondaries.

M$N accounts for about 11% and that's being #1 for my most important.

G provides pretty much all the rest.

i think most of their membership comes from yahoogroups that is their demographics database, for I received an email invitation from them and mentioning their yahoogroups that I was a member of. seems like still in beta stage compared to google's adsense which is basically matured on the development.

I am listed at no. 7 at Yahoo for a keyword that Overture says get 800++ searches and Wordtracker says 2500++ a day

I do not see any traffic from Yahoo for that keyword at all. Nothing!

I thought at least there must be 1 or 2 from there ...
