I'm pretty sure that you had "free" in your ad, or used dynamic text with keywords that contain "free".

Ringtones aren't going bonk yet I don't believe. As stated before, $1 for a ringtone isn't bad, it's actually cheaper than on a lot of phones. Ringtones in Verizon's default program are like $2.99 or something ridiculous.

I'm sure there's already smarter people in the industry making the consumer well aware that they are actually buying ringtones for $9.99, and when the deception aspect poops out, these people won't see any changes :).

overall though i believe that the ringtone industry will end up on the per ringtone sales... look at digital music. ITunes control 85% of the digital music sales and they do it on a per song basis, the places that sales subscriptions (napster) are just not working out.

I agree. People want things on demand and they don't want to pay for the ability to download 10 ringtones per month when they're just looking for one or two songs at the moment.

Affilliate Manager: Keywords such as "free," "100% complimentary," and others that lead users to believe that there are no costs involved are strictly forbiden. Bidding on these sort of keywords (short-tail and long-tail) will result in an affiliates links being cut and could get you into a legal stink.

Affiliate Manager (next day): It can [include "free"] as long as the context doesn't lead a reasonable user to believe there are absolutely no costs involved.

    Consistency would be great!

I was re-reading this. I really don't know how this rumor got started. I believe it may have been a mis-understanding on the part of someone either at Azoogleads (Nothing Compares), Yahoo, or somewhere (who knows). I think everyone has keywords with the word "free". But it's clear to everyone as well that the word "free" is forbidden within the ad text. If anyone has a concern about this, I believe it is best to contact their Affiliate Manager.
