Quick Buck Crew Those 1,000 directories that spring up everyday talking about 'heavily promoting', and 'offering cheap submission' to only disappear in 3 days. The type of people who don't back up, and claim their dog ate their Server, instead of getting solid Web Hosting You know, the bottom dwelling 'gimme gimme gimme for free' people that dwell around this place. oh, np on the plug. it's all in good faith.
ahhhhhhhhh so why didnt you tell me that ... heheheheh now i feel like... Dont you dare would you have explained to me
Well it’s An0n trademark it was the first to start using it… and probably will go to Wikipedia soon We also have some raging bunnies here to attack the QBC
Back to the thread main subject. My model, regular listings are permanent, but get thrown to deeper inside levels as directory grows and more detailed sub-categories get created. Featured listings annual payment get upper category and better traffic exposure.
IMHO that is an excellent way to go about it, since featured listings really are what the Google Adwords ads are on Google.
Yearly are kinda silly for standard listings - but when it comes to selling SiteWide's, its a must! You can't have an ever growing list of sitewides.
Good point!! That is a good way of putting it.. So it should be fine to tell my existing clients that next month onwards all perm featured link reviews are becoming yearly.
I just learnt of that from Rob a few days ago and now it just keeps popping out everyway i go now... hmmm... Rob, is this a common slang or you made this up?? I wonder who invented this... Gonna wikipedia for it now. edited:8.02am Just googled it and found that CReed's blog is ranked number 1 for the exact phrase for Quick Buck Crew
i agree to a certain extent. But with this principle in mind, there shld be a limited number of featured listings allowed on a page, which unfortunately, is NOT what i'm seeing on some directories. I've seen pages where its NOTHING but featured listings, which kinda defeats the purpose
are you saying about Alive? But the directory is worth paying as it would probably send you more visitors!
In this regard, to a certain extent i agree with John and would like to put it a little differently. This is what i feel The purpose of any internet directory is to build a strong resource, the business model actually build from there on. I believe content is king and if you are managing a web directory in true spirit, you would see the resource index grow and now slump with deleted links. Building your resource index would infact benefit a directory with more trageted traffic with the traffic benefit moving on to the listed links. This is one areas where even the best directory owners are defaulting, i am not ashamed to admit that the only value that i am giving the links in my directory is the SERP advantage. But things would be very different with my premium paid permanent link directory **COMING SOON A annual payment for a regular listing is more about selling SERPs value and not building on a resources, defaulting the very purpose of a web directory. I am all for a permanent listing and would not submit a site for a annual charge unless the directory guarantees me enough exposure. p.s.Most premium paid directories are running with empty / semi-empty categories and its a tearful sight to see or do they agree that they are selling SERP value and not the TARGETED EXPOSURE that they promise. I am lost Lets not brag about alexa, we all know how it is coming
this is a great thread really.I usually bypass the pay by the year directories, even though some are really top notch sites,if anything for the fact i dont want a surprise "bill" for listings in a year that i may have forgot about.I have all my listings permanent..featured and regular..although i may eventually make my featured links on a yearly basis
directory business OR link-leasing business. Great Point. Really just WOW! I too think so. The core meaning/existence of directory does not allows annual fee or something like that. Also, I don't think that original directory meaning/existence allow even paid directory. frankly. _________________ A Bit Off Topic _______________- I really like to see "JohnScott" at DP. This is first time I am seeing you here. I am just feeling something good. Do you rem me?? I am Mr_Kumar at v7n forums. :smile.
Well John Most of the directories which you are talking about are the 'directory in the box' type deals. Purchase a script for $xx, load it up and boom. And when things are slow, ditch it. If things look good, start a new directory. Maybe have a full array of them. Quality directories, which offer different services won't settle for the 1 time fee deal. Also, what happens when your directory is 10 years old. That 1st listing in the Business section which paid $10 is getting hundreds of hits a day and you have to list it because its a 1 time fee. What if a site started out as a jewelry shop but now shows porn videos. Ok, you'll catch it but when? You're only charging a 1 time fee, and can't afford to pay editors to continually monitor your site. Software bug or you need some changes done? You can't do it cause ur underfunded. I mean if you really, really want to run a directory, it costs big money and you have to figure out a way to offset those costs. Botw which you mentioned gets around 250,000 visitors a month. You don't get that far by charging a 1 time fee. take care
