No meta description or Duplicated meta description?

Because we have a lot of url's we have our meta's automatically generated. We want to reduce the number of duplicated meta descriptions so for our filter pages we want to leave the meta description empty with the thought that Google will create his own. I think this is better then leaving it duplicated.

What do you guys think about this ?

So the question is, if you have to choose between a duplicated Meta description or an Empty meta description, what's the best thing you can choose?

    Kind regards,

If i've to choose between duplicate meta description and empty meta description, i'd go for empty. But don't ever leave a meta description empty, try using different words along with keywords in meta description. When SEs are giving us a chance to use snippets why not use it effectively rather than depending on SEs to chose the text from the body of the page.

I would choose the empty meta description too, but I would try to make all of them different, no matter how long it takes because meta tags are still important. You could probably use the Tag Checker from Rankvision.com. I just started using it because it shows me on which pages I have meta tags and on which I dont, so I can take care of them.

Although the meta description can have an impact on users clicking on your listing in the rankings since it typically is the text they see, the actual meta description itself has little if any impact on your ranking. If you leave it blank, then Google will try and find text to display.

So if you are having difficulty coming up with unique meta descriptions, then I would leave them blank. Although, it is not ideal, it will not do any harm to your rankings.

It is much better to find some plugin tool to fixed this automatically or manually.. So that Google could crawl your website faster and help you rank your site.
