Totally wrong in my book, you don’t have to pay to contribute to the forum. Reporting spam, helping members and making useful posts is contributing more than many have done. Thanks Brian
This Euler has a nickname "Nihanshah" Right? No one gave a flying hoot to my suggestions guys i was talking some sense!
I don't really think this is a suggestion thread. A decision has already been made and now it is just discussion about it.
that is what shawn said!! you should have read other posts before commenting!! now you also fall under category of people who want to increase their post count! Congrats!
You are exactly correct. But if you look a little closer, the thread is titled, "No longer a "dofollow" site" not "Do you guys think dp should change to no follow?"
Spammers would just offer some nulled or stolen script for free to get to required reputation level. I’m not sure that I like the idea of a paid only forum. Lots of members still add value to the forum and I feel that this would be lost if premium membership was required. I do see it happening in the future. Thanks Brian
Sure they could... and it'd open several more cans of worms: -- They'd create even more multiple IDs than they do already and pass rep back and forth. -- It'd create a market for selling DP rep offsite ("WTS: Hi Dears, I have 10 DP IDs. High posts and rep. Offering reps at $2 ea. PM for detail"), -- There would be added instances of "rep bombing" those they dislike... and the mods would have a zillion threads complaining about unfair rep and rep cabals. The recommended fix raises more problems than it solves.
One can only award reps 5-times every 24 hours (to different IDs only) + to give reps to same person, one needs to spread reps to atleast 20 people(that's what i observed)- For a spammer to get to 100 points, would take 6 months minimum. For this: Reps can only be made valid for post with certain number of characters, and spammers usually post "Thank you for replying" , "My site is PR2" , "PM me, i have FB vouchers" i can't see spammers posting something , for instance, a 100 character long post. Shaun can do a lot of things in my opinion whether he wants to, is an another issue
Hahaha that way it would make the spammers spam more and more so that they can reach the 4k mark as soon as possible. If something like that has to be done why not remove the Nofollow for those member who have a certain amount of REP. Agree to that I think REP thing is still a better option.
+1 for the nofollow move. I can't be bothered to read the entire thread to evaluate the general consensus. But as far as I'm concerned, go site wide nofollow on all links for all members. Cut 'em down.
Makes a lot of sense. It would be virtually impossible for a spammer to fly under the radar with that many posts without getting banned. I don't even think it has to be that many posts, but that point is to make it unattractive enough for spammers to not even want to do it, without punishing the wider community that is actively participating and not spamming.
