Which is one reason we have been experimenting with ways to better control the marketplace. The Instant Pay function lets us see if a transaction actually took place, if someone disputed it, who won the dispute, etc.

We've also started building more of a "real" marketplace where people can sell things and the system handles payment processing, distribution of whatever it is (assuming it's something that can be downloaded, etc.). Right now it's just eBooks because that was a simple/low volume area to test it with. http://marketplace.digitalpoint.com/ebooks.php Since we handle the payment processing, we are also able to handle distribution to the buyer and we can also limit ratings/reviews to people who ACTUALLY bought it (and didn't do a dispute/chargeback). For example some of the buyers reviewed/rated this one: http://marketplace.digitalpoint.com/ebooks.php?id=14

Signatures are still there... only thing is that now they are no-follow :)

And your thread doesn't belong here!

Yep all non-premium mebers had their signatures moved to no-follow(useless for SEO) to cut back spam . If you want to use your signature for SEO you need to be a premium member .

I thought premium members also have no-follow.

If you got your PR juice from links posted on digitalpoint.com, I would say your SEO efforts are a massive fail.

That is correct. My signature links are nofollow.

Just one of your signatures is no-follow.

Could someone confirm whether Premium members have no-follow signatures. This thread is not very clear about this throughout. In some posts I got the impression that they're no-follow and in other posts dofollow. What is the real answer?

Some are nofollow, some are not. But it's not up to the user which is which. If you are looking to buy premium membership in hopes of getting dofollow signature links, it's best not to since there is no guarantee of dofollow.

Yep some premium links are automatically made nofollow because they're considered spam .

Not necessarily spam, just not "high quality". And even then it's an automated process for something that is subjective, so it will be wrong sometimes.

Thanks for the assumption. However, I opened up the page source and looked to see if my links were nofollow or not and the first link I came to was nofollow. As digitalpoint said, some are and some are not - which invalidates your quoted "short version". Moot argument. Main point, don't rely on it.

The "quoted short version" is from the sites owner and maybe you should still read it again. Read the long version too.

Is there a way for a premium user to check whether his link is no-follow? i.e. considered spam?

Check the page source code or get a nofollow/dofollow plugin for your browser.
I think atomics was probably marked as spam because it has the word "link" in the title twice and the word "submit". Those words are probably words used to identify spam. Not for sure on that though. Shawn should enlighten us...

No there is not a way, and even if there was... the algorithm changes, so it's decision to nofollow something can change (either way).

I'm assuming that if a link exists on DP to many times in different profiles and posts it can be considered spammy . Shawn as a master programmer that could you enlighten us a bit about this algorithm ?

I find competition to be very stupid. Why do we compete and make this a dog eat dog world. A real triumphant leader hardly ever even acknowledges his/her competitor in a negative manner. #ImJustSaying

Just out of interest and may have read this wrong, but it makes no difference if your a premium member or not, follow/nofollow is simply determined if an algo deems that link to be spammy or not. And if thats is the case, why would my links be nofollow?, only curious, as im not fussed if they are follow or not.

    Thanks,
