If you read Shawns previous post he says where most of the traffic comes from and I think he would know.

Why do you need proof? proof of where the traffic for this site comes from? Why do you care?

I'm fairly certain that my data is more accurate than yours. Google Analytics for the last year, sorted by top countries...

Yes, there IS a lot of traffic from India, but it's certainly not the most... and not anywhere REMOTELY close to the most valuable. Now that you can see traffic "value" in Google Analytics broken down by country... India is ranked 120th in the list of countries as far as monetary value, Sri Lanka is 106th, Romania is 148th, Pakistan is 130th. Blocking those countries would have very little impact as far as ad revenue and would certainly help with the spam/pointless posts. But that's not something we are going to do... just saying it wouldn't have a terrible effect if we did it.

BTW - spammers are FAR more than 1% of the total user base from those countries.

Well, until you have access to REAL stats, I'd have to say my source is better than yours. :)

See screenshot in this post. You can also see the popularity of countries (the darker, the more popular), on this page (on bottom):

Bounce rate is high because 76% of all traffic comes from search engines. So people tend to find the answer to whatever they are looking for on the first page they come to (since it was from a search).

I know it's a long shot and he wouldn't post it, but worth a try :p

Btw, curious how the forum got affected by the pandas. I'm seeing a drop in alexa from panda 2, seems about right? Nofollows should help a bit

Blocking those 5 countries would be the worst mistake a forum owner (especially the 1st forum in this business) could make. What will happen next : new forums will appear (you underestimate the cash value that those country users run), favorite hacking target and ddos atacks, very bad publicity, increase use of proxies, more traffic/activity for competing forums and a lot more. I can't think of a better way to shoot yourself in the foot :D

P.S I'm from Romania but the % of my income directly related to this forum is less than 5% so personally i'm not to frightened about this possible measure.

that's probably because of "no longer do-follow" thingy, not the panda effect!

Doubtful... 12% increase in any month would be insane.

I don't think Panda did anything to us to be honest. We don't auto-generate content, regurgitate duplicate content or anything like that... 14 year old domain that has ~11M natural links that people linked to stuff on their own, etc...

Plus, there actually is a ton of useful info on the site... I've ended up on my own site hundreds of times when searching for random things in Google.
