No link from directories?

Does Google consider article directories good sources of backlinks? I have submitted several articles on numerous directories, but have not seen even one backlink from the articles when I use Google to check for my site's backlinks.

according to matt cuts, Google explicitly hide most of the links when u use the link command to check backlinks, they do this to prevent people from reverse engineering each others rankings, that's why they show only a small fraction of your links, if you want to check your links, try the yahoo link explorer.

    good luck :)

Did the directories you submitted to require manual reviews and approval? Are they reputable and within your niche? Are you sure Google isn't just taking its sweet time listing them?

Are you using Google's Webmaster Tools or just the commands within the search interface?

Just like there are thousands of free directories to submit to, there are also plenty of “Paid to List” directories.

These directories can change literally any amount the wish, and usually get your listing up within a day of payment. The good thing about these types of directories is that there are less links meaning more PR is spread to your page.

Maybe, free don't work then time for u to try some paid ones. :):)

Google do consider backlinks from dirs. But you have to understand different between submitting and getting approved.

Definitely your article directory link will be taken into consideration. But some of the back links will be hidden by google for some page rank calculation issues. So you do your work as well.

Google considers all the backlinks from article directories, shows all the backlinks in Google WMT.

Google also consider nofollow links, but doesn't consider in giving the PR. You can also see nofollow links in Google WMT.

Backlinkwatch trail version show upto 1000 backlinks only. For full details, we have to get subscription.

This could be the reason since I can see some backlinks from article directories and other social networking sites when I use Yahoo explorer.

    Thanks for all your help.

That's it. Make some changes while submiting your site to different directories to avoid being treated as spam. :)
